NADANADA (National Automobile Dealers Association) founded in 1917, represents more than 19,700 new car and truck dealers, both import and domestic, with more than 49,300 separate NADA franchises.  Membership is open to any new-automobile or new-truck dealership holding a new automobile or truck sales and service franchise. The average manufacturer's suggested retail price of cars and light trucks bought in December was $30,481, up 2 percent from the average sticker price in November and 4.6 percent higher than a year earlier. Strong incentives and normal negotiation kept the average actual selling price well below that. In December it was $26,077, about 5 percent above the year-ago transaction price. Both average transaction prices are about 14 percent below the manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP). Last year, 63 million cars and light trucks were produced worldwide. The world's biggest car producer (including light trucks) is the European Union with 29% of the world's production. In non-EU Eastern Europe another 4% are produced. The second largest manufacturer is NAFTA with 25.8%, followed by Japan with 16.7%, China with 8.1%, MERCOSUR with 3.9%, India with 2.4% and the rest of the world with 10.1%. Hybrid cars and more advanced combustion engines (eg. gas turbines) will improve fuel efficiency. Toyota intends to have hybrid versions for all its models by 2012, including the hybrid Toyota Prius which is already available. Ford intends to make five hybrids available by 2008.
